L-A-Z-Y Day!

I arrived at a timeshare in Sun Peaks near Kamloops after teatime yesterday.  Drats!  It was my nap in the Wal-Mart lot that delayed me, but when I can’t stop yawning and feel I am losing focus, time to rest before careening down a mountain side.

Today is Father’s Day.  I am so proud of Bryan and Stephen, and the fathers they are becoming.  They are blessed to have Jackson and Whitney, and they seem to enjoy being dads.  It is also a bittersweet day for me since it is the day my own dad died.  However, he perished doing something he loved, and I was blessed to have him for 60 years.  Love you and miss you, Dad!

I am planning or maybe NOT planning a lazy day!  This is primarily a wintertime resort - the 3rd largest in Canada, and from what I’ve read, some people prefer it to Whistler.  There are not a lot of activities here in June; fly-fishing lessons interesting but cost prohibitive.  There are wineries to visit, but not much fun by myself. The golf course looks lush; the boys would like that.

It’s a beautiful day to breathe some fresh mountain air, read, and rejuvenate and rest my hip.

They provide breakfast; good thing I finished that cinnamon roll!  Eggs Benedict, bacon, fruit...and a couple of packages of oatmeal for my next timeshares/hotels.

I walk down a trail through the woods and across a covered bridge, and I’m attacked by a swarm of mosquitoes!  Fresh blood!  I wipe down w/ insect repellant and hope not to be carried away.  I’m also watching for bears and the much rarer cougar since multiple warnings are posted.

Remember dandelions that mature into white fuzzy puff balls and blowing on them with a wish?  The paths and fields are covered in them.

A European-style village with the ski slopes in the background is near-by and very quiet today, but I imagine a bustling place when snow-covered.

Wish I could get my hanging flower baskets to look like this!

I walk the streets, take some photos, and sit at an outdoor cafe for lunch advertising the special as a “double Caesar.”  I assume this is a salad, and I ask my waitress who says yes so I order it and water.  Imagine my surprise when a tall cocktail with a lime wedge, celery, and asparagus arrive.  She confirms this is the “Caesar”, and we laugh that I thought I was ordering a salad.  Oh, well, be open to new experiences!

I taste it, and it is gosh awful!  Very, very spicy, and tomato-ey...none of which I like, oh well.  Two small sips, and I am done.  My waitress returns with my REAL salad and offers to take it off my bill since misunderstanding.

I google a “Caesar” cocktail when I return to my room and learn this drink was invented in Calgary and is very popular in Canada.  Also called a Bloody Caesar, it is similar to a Bloody Mary with the addition of clam juice!  Ingredients are: vodka, a caesar mix ( combo of tomato juice and clam broth), hot sauce. Worcestershire sauce, and served over ice in a large celery salt rimmed glass and garnished with celery and lime.  Rush to the bar and stir up a batch of these!  Just don’t invite me!

Observation:  Hotel rooms are usually designed for two or more people.  Why do they only have ONE luggage rack for ONE suitcase?  And with a couple, who gets to use it?

Teatime is a lovely British tradition, and I put my plate in the frig for dinner.  I had my mid-afternoon salad and still trying to recover from the cocktail.

I leave tomorrow after breakfast and have another six hour drive getting closer to Banff.  I’ll be staying for five nights in two different timeshares near Radium Hot Springs just west of the national park in the Rockies.

I’m looking forward to more mountain driving.  Now, go make yourself a Caesar!
